Choose New Job

How Do You Choose the Right New Job?

“How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep.”
Psalm 92:5

Isaiahswritings-JobSearchingCoachWhen God told us, through the pen of the prophet Isaiah, that His thoughts are not our thoughts, He wasn’t kidding.  God is much more focused than we are.

He has one primary goal for your personal development; that your innermost person be “conformed to the image of Christ.” He’s interested in your character, your values, your motives, all of the inner things that influence your actions, behaviors, perspective.

What are we typically focused on?

We have many things we question, pursue, focus on, seek the direction regarding such things as:  what car to buy, which person to marry, what job to pursue, where to go on vacation, how to raise our children. Not that these are unimportant; they are important. But all of these questions are external, while what’s happening within us will significantly impact each of those decisions.

God really isn’t too concerned about which car you buy, which person you marry, which job you take, where you vacation, or how you raise your children.  He’s not concerned about these because He knows these things will take care of themselves if our inner person is becoming more like Christ…His character, His values, and His motives will guide our decisions.

So, God uses circumstances and sometimes weaves events to give us the opportunity to practice responding as Christ would. As our Pastor once said..

It’s not so much, ‘What would Jesus do?’ but more, ‘If Jesus were walking in my shoes, living my life, how would He respond?’”

That is Christ-like thinking…

ChooseRightJob-JobSearchingCoachThat’s what God wants for you.

As you walk through life, make your decisions, and try to pursue what you feel is what is best for you and those around you, remember that God’s thoughts are not your thoughts. Then, stop and ask yourself, “Would this decision, pursuit, or direction be one God might make or take?”

If anything will get you thinking in a new way, it’s asking these kind of questions.

As you engage in your job search, be aware of opportunities for character development. You may just be enrolled in God’s course on Character 301. It’s not the basic course, it’s the advanced course and you will grow mightily as you engage in it.

Loving Father, Your love is beyond comprehension.  Help me discern when I am not responding as Christ would, and make decisions that are character building.
