Prayer In Job Search

How To Use Prayer In Your Job Search

“Call to me and I will answer you and
tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:3

JobSeaarchingPrayer-JobSearchingCoachHave you considered using prayer in your job search? Would it be of any help?

What is prayer? We are invited, as we read in the New Testament, to come before our heavenly Father in prayer. But what does that mean? Is it a checklist, a formula, a position, a use of magic terms? No! It’s simply communicating with Your Father.

A young child gets home from school excited about something he learned. He runs in shouting, “Daddy, Daddy, guess what I learned today!” He hops up on his Dad’s knee and begins in his 7-year-old vocabulary to share his excitement, or his pain, his tears, or his laughter. Can you see it? That’s prayer.

What would you pray about?

And your heavenly Father is waiting for you to hop up on His knee and in your stumbling vocabulary to share what’s on your heart:

  • It may be the fear of how your job search is taking longer than you thought it would.
  • The anxiety caused by your dwindling finances.
  • The stress by the news of the escalating unemployment rate.  Whatever is on your heart, He is ready to listen.

Are you ready to share it—I mean really share it? It’s not the “Now I lay me down to sleep…” kind of prayer of your childhood, but more, “Father, I am really afraid today that…” and you fill it in. He is waiting to hear. He longs for you to really share what’s on your heart.

How long has it been since you did that? Or have you ever?

How long since you have shed tears of pain or joy in prayer as you shared your heart with your Father? Or have you ever?

When would you use prayer in your job search?

  • PrepareWithPrayer-JobSearchingCoachWhen you’ve learned or decided that you need a new job?
  • When you’re deciding on the type of job to search for?
  • When your researching job availability?
  • When you’re preparing your résumé?
  • When you’re going on a job interview?
  • When you’re following up with your potential employer?
  • How about all of the above?

It doesn’t take magic words, a formula, a position, or a checklist. It takes the heart of a child. As Christ said, “Let the little children come unto me”

It’s time to become more childlike!

Dear waiting Father, thank you that you see me as your needy child, and thank you for listening to my heart.
