Productive Job Search

How to Make Your Job Search More Productive and Fulfilling

Take delight in the LORD, and he will
give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

DesiresOfHeart-JobSearchingCoachYou read this verse and at first blush you think…

“Wow!  God has promised to give me what my heart desires!”

…Nicer house, better car, more fulfilling job, and oh yeah, to be more like Him, to reflect Christ. And then you watch as life goes on, waiting for those things to happen.

When will the promise be kept?

But then you read the verse again, and realize your very understanding of the verse was skewed.  It doesn’t say God will give you all your heart desires, but in fact, God will give you the desires themselves so you desire the right things.

You probably think as I did, “I know the first interpretation didn’t seem right; God has to be deeper than that.”  And then you realize the real impact of the second interpretation, what it means to desire the right things.

This is not an overnight process. Hebrews talks about desiring deeper things, the “meat” of the faith, but first you have to work through the “milk” phase. Children aren’t born ready to eat meat, only to suck milk. They need to develop the teeth and appetite to do so.

Just as children, you and I need to receive consistent nourishment from our Father to be under His constant care and receive regular input to our spirit. As we do, we will find that the old desires begin to fade. But, they don’t die completely, as Paul wrote in Romans where he said,

The things I want to do I don’t do, and the things I didn’t want to do, I do.”

But God keeps working, and as Paul also writes in Phil. 1:6 …

I am confident God will bring you to maturity.”

FlfillingJobSearch-JobSearchingCoachYour job search can become an adventure…

You can tell you are on the way when your job search is more about expressing how He made you, asking how He wants to use you, and being willing to be a part of His adventure. Then it’s more than just a job search.

Benevolent Father, forgive me for selfishly pursing my dreams. Continue to change my very desires so I want what You want, think Your thoughts, do Your will.
