Job Search Desperation

Are You Beginning To Feel Desperate In Your Job Search?

“But when all goes well with you,
remember me and show me kindness;
mention me to Pharaoh
and get me out of this prison.”
– Genesis 40:14

There are days when all you want to do is cry.  “God, please get me out of this prison.”

JobSearchPrison-JobSearchingCoachYour four walls are closing in. Everyone gets on your nerves. No one answers your calls. No interviews are happening, or if they are, they turn out to be for jobs you really don’t want…desperation starts to set in.

I hear similar thoughts and feeling under the skin of Genesis 40:14 when Joseph says to the cup bearer, “And don’t forget me when you are back in your position.”  He had been a slave to Potiphar and in prison for right around thirteen years. He had been faithful.  God had blessed him where he was, but Joseph knew he could do so much more and he wanted out. In the loneliness of his dark cell when under the covers, I could hear him crying out also, “Please get me out!”

Your job search is not your prison!

If that’s where you are, take heart! God has not left you alone in your vocational prison cell. Just as He was with Joseph, He will be with you. You can begin to imagine what Joseph must have felt:  lonely, frustrated, anxious, and more.  Yet several times it is said, “…and God blessed Joseph…and Potiphar saw that God blessed Joseph…and the prison leaders saw that God blessed Joseph.

What did Joseph do to earn this? Nothing; he was just being Joseph as God had made him. He kept his faith, and he did what he could in the circumstances he found himself in.  God did the rest.

Be Yourself!

OpenPrisonDoor-obSearchingCoachAnd that’s all God asks of you as you continue down your road; be yourself as He has made you, keep the faith, and do what you can wherever it is you find yourself. And God will do the rest.

He will open your prison door as He did for Joseph and you too can celebrate in Him.

It just takes faith and perseverance.

God of Open Doors, in Your time You opened Joseph’s prison door and You will open mine.  Help me to practice my faith in the meantime.
