How To Achieve Balance In Your Life
“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature,
and in favor with God and men.”
Luke 2:52
“He’s so heavenly minded he’s no earthly good.”
“If anyone won’t work, they won’t eat, either.”
“She’s a real workaholic and hasn’t had a vacation in five years.”
Ever hear these sayings? They represent extremes. That’s not what God wants your life to be about. He wants you to have a balanced approach to life: an approach that is attractive, that others appreciate, that’s a winning lifestyle. He wants our lives to be appealing to others and earn a commendable reputation.
It’s easy to get your life out of balance, especially when you’re feeling the pressure of being unemployed and being totally immersed in a job search. But having your life out of balance really doesn’t help you achieve what you’re trying to do, it only complicates the issue.
Don’t let outside demands take control of your life…
God wants your life to follow these same examples:
- Jesus; He was the type of man that found acceptance by others, whether they totally believed in Him or not.
- Ambassador; to be an ambassador you have to find acceptance to your life and your words (II Cor 5:20).
- The Thessalonians; they were examples of the faith to other believers (I Thess. 1:7)
- The Bereans; they were commended because they didn’t just accept what other teachers told them, but studied for themselves (Acts 17:11)
- Do good works; Jesus challenges us not to hide our good works so that others will give glory to God (Matt. 5:16)
Now those represent an attractive life, one others would like to emulate. That’s a life that wins hearers and brings honor to God.
But it’s easy to drift to an extreme way of life…
Think about it, do you ever have these thoughts?
- “My work is so demanding I don’t have time for church or fellowship with believers.”
- “My college studies are so demanding and require so much of my energy. Sunday is my only day to sleep in.”
- “I must focus on my job search to be sure I can provide for my family. I don’t have time for church.”
- “My church work is really what’s important. I can’t do as good a job at work because of that. It’s really not so important.
Have you drifted to an extreme? Do you have balance in your life? What do you need to do to have more balance?
