Are You Expected To Do Your Job Search On Your Own?

“From him the whole body, joined and held together
by every supporting ligament, grows and
builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
Ephesians 4:16

Is it lonely in your job search world? Do you feel alone…on your own? It’s not supposed to feel that way.

The images the New Testament presents of the church is a Body. The underpinning of growth in the Body is relationships. The concept of relationships is stressed over and over. The work of Christ is to be a team effort:

• Elijah was instructed to link up with specific people of the 7,000 people that remained dedicated to the Lord (I Kings 19)
• Saul went immediately to the house of Judas after his road to Damascus awakening from the risen Lord.
• There are over twenty “one another’s” in the New Testament that describe how we are to live together.
• Ephesians 4 discusses the responsibility for maturity of the Body as dependent on each working with others.

And the list goes on.

We are not independent…

Independent Christians is an oxymoron. And there is a reason for that. In addition to dependence on the indwelling Hold Spirit, each of us has a desperate need for another to encourage, challenge, validate,  and inspire in the daily battle with darkness, and challenges which include your job search.

To deny the need for this type of relationship is to deny the essence of the Body. To try and live the Christian life without it is to invite defeat, failure, and discouragement.

You need others in the course of your job search to lift you up. You need others to remind you that God is at work and He’s not finished yet. You need others to be Christ’s hands, feet, and voice when the heavens seem like brass and God’s silence is deafening. They are here to help.

• Do you have these others in your life?
• Do you have others to fill these roles for you?
• And are you filling some of those roles for others?

It’s a give and take life…

We are not to wait until everything seems to be running smoothly to be a giver. As you offer and give help, you will also receive.

The Corinthian church lived in poverty; yet even in their lack, they still gave to Paul’s ministry. Giving to others in their need refocuses your eyes outside yourself instead of being so myopic. It will add to your life.
