Have You Recognized Personal Weaknesses In Your Job Search?
“For the sake of Christ, then,
I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
II Corinthians 12:10
As you spend time in your job search, are you becoming aware any weaknesses you might have?
Weaknesses. We all have them. None of us like to talk about them, but that doesn’t change the fact that we have them. Can they really be strengths? If so, how does that work?
What are these things we call weaknesses, really?
They can fall into a few categories:
- Areas of temptation: Things you are particularly vulnerable to. It is what it is. The Apostle Paul had them, you probably do also. Just do the battle. Keep resisting Satan, and rest in the Lord. Don’t get bound up in guilt when you fail. God knows your battle, your wins and losses, and He still loves and empowers you.
- Areas of undeveloped strengths: These are only weaknesses because they are areas of strength you have either not had the opportunity or the inclination to develop. This may be God’s call for you to identify what these are and put together a development plan to address and strengthen them. We all have these too, so you may want to address yours.
- Areas of incapability: These are truly weaknesses because God has not gifted you with the natural ability, the learned capability, or the supernatural empowerment to do these tasks. You are not unique here, either. None of us can do everything and God designed us that way so we would need to rely on others to help us with these tasks.
Knowing your weakness…
It’s important in your job search to identify each of these in your life and experience. God is no doubt working in each area, and the more you know yourself, the more you can cooperate with Him. As you lean on Him, He can help you turn your weaknesses into strengths.
You need to consider…What your, undeveloped strengths, and areas of reliance are. How well do know yourself? Can you also see that each of these can be strengths as you learn to depend on Christ in each area? How different life would be, if, when you talk about weaknesses, you could view them from this perspective.
Holy Son and my Empowerer, I don’t have to continue to be mired in my weaknesses. Help me rest in your strength.
