Is Pride An Obstacle In Your Job Search?
“My times are in your hands;
deliver me from the hands of my enemies,
from those who pursue me.”
Psalms 31:15
How proud are you?
We are proud individualists and insist on doing things for ourselves.
We don’t want to depend on anyone for anything if we can help it. Frank Sinatra’s song, “I Did it My Way” is our theme song.
We founded a new land. Conquered a wild territory. Drove those wagon trains west and overcome much opposition. (Even for you in other countries, you have had to overcome your own obstacles as well.)
What do you mean I need to trust someone else in my job search, trust someone for my future? I can do it my way!
That’s the difference between a non-believer’s search and one a believer engages in—that great, unseen source of spirit-led insight, resource, and power. God wants to be a part of your search. He wants to guide you. He wants to make your job search into a real adventure.
- He will nudge, but He won’t force.
- He will prompt, but He won’t insist.
- He will whisper, but He won’t scream.
Respond with trust…
The other part of the equation is yours…You need to respond, respond with trust. Of course, you can conduct a job search in your own strength, using your own powers of insight, drawing on your own resources. And you may even land somewhere that is fulfilling and where you make a contribution.
But you will never know what adventure you may have missed along the way by doing it on your own. You’ll never know what might have been. You see, it’s not just the end result that’s important, it’s how you get there. It’s not the end justifies the means, it’s the means themselves.
And the means won’t always be rosy. Look at Joseph’s road: threatened with death, sold into slavery, thrown into prison. Now, that’s the road you’d choose, right? Probably !
But look at the people he impacted along the way whose lives may have been forever altered for the better because they knew him. Now that’s adventure! That’s trust!
Father of Compassion, I so often walk by sight and not by faith. Open my eyes of faith to trust you for my future and my path during my search.
