Job Search Roller Coaster

Does Your Job Search Feel Like a Roller Coaster?

“I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty….
I am the only one left,
and now they are trying to kill me too.”
I Kings 19:14

RollerCoasterJobSearch-JobSearchingCoachIf your job search is feeling more and more like a roller coaster, but not as fun, and all you really want to do is get off…consider the lessons you can learn from Elijah’s life:

Elijah had so many of the human characteristics you may find in yourself.  As you read examples from Elijah’s life, see if you can’t identify with him in your own experience:

  • Boldly confronted someone when they were doing wrong.
  • Ran away to avoid further conflict.
  • Enjoyed a “mountaintop” experience of spiritual victory.
  • Fled when he learned someone was out to get him.
  • Felt he was the only one that really cared about the things of God.
  • Listened for God’s voice in all the wrong places.
  • Heard God’s command when least expected.

What is your roller coaster ride like?

Don’t you find your ride the same type of spiritual roller coaster as Elijah did?

That is the reality of the Christian experience. Foot-in-mouth Peter rode the roller coaster. Tell-it-like-it-is Paul rode it also. Probably the only person that didn’t ride it since the beginning of time was Christ himself. That’s why it’s called the “Christian” experience.

JobSearchMistakes-JobSearchingCoachEven in your job search, you will climb aboard the roller coaster. One day things are going well, and you rejoice in the Lord. Next day, things don’t look so rosy, and you take the coaster plunge.  Fortunately, God accomplishing His purpose is not dependent on how you feel.

What if your job search doesn’t go perfectly?

An even greater realization is that God accomplishing His purpose in you and in your job search is not dependent on you doing everything perfectly. Trust me, you won’t. You will make mistakes.  You’ll say and do things you wish you could do over. Look at Elijah. Or others will do things that have consequences for you. Look at Joseph.

But God is still God and nothing takes Him by surprise. So relax, do your best, and leave the results in His hands.

He is still at work, and He’s not finished yet. He has exciting things around the bend as you continue in His adventure story.

God of Results, I thank you that you see the end from the beginning and through your grace, get me there.
