How To Choose Which Job Opportunity Is Best For You
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for
and assurance about what we do not see.”
Hebrews 11:1
You’ve done your investigating to locate job opportunities, applied for ones where you feel you fit, diligently participated in interviews, and now have offers to respond to…Who do you trust to make that decision for you:
- Yourself?
- Close friends or mentors?
- Your spouse or significant other?
You may respond, “Well, only I am really qualified and capable of making that decision. Only I know best what I do, the kind of company I can do it best in, and what makes for a best fit.”
Really?
How would you decide on a job opportunity?
Is it possible even you have an unspoken, maybe even unaware, agenda you are trying to address in this job? Is it possible that past success or failure might color your thinking in the job you think you would be best suited for? Is it possible even your experience in your job search will slant your response?
You bet! Of course! All of the above!
So imagine for a moment that you’re Joseph. You have been threatened with death, sold into slavery, and spent more than 13 years in prison. How might you perceive a job offer?
- Would you feel qualified to be the Prime Minister of Egypt?
- Would you have jumped at the offer to manage the king’s prison if it was offered?
- Would you have settled for going back to tending sheep if you could?
A lot of complex emotions and thoughts rumble through your head whenever you consider the possibilities.
Who can make the best choice?
Only God can sort through all of that and plant you in the best place. Only God reads your internal GPS most accurately and knows where you would be best suited. Only God knows where you can make your best contribution as part of His adventure. Only God!
Can you trust Him to make that decision? You can learn more about how to do this in the book The Christian Job Search Manual; 6 Biblical Secrets for a Job Hunting Adventure.
