Has The Loss Of Your Job Become A Crisis?
“For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison
and laid burdens on our backs.
You let people ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a place of abundance.”
Psalms 66:10-12
Feeling lost? Is that what a mid-life crisis is? We all feel it at some point or another.
It could be you’re merely passing through it, or it could be a deeply troubling mental focus that throws you off. And how do we often respond to a new spouse, new career, new car, new house. None of which addresses the real underlying issue.
What is the issue?
Life hasn’t turned out the way we hoped, dreamed, or planned…and Joseph can identify.
We find Joseph in Genesis 39 being carted off to Egypt after being sold by his brothers. He had to have similar thoughts;
- What happened to my life?
- What happened to my dreams?
- It wasn’t that long before this that he had shared his self-aggrandizing dreams with his brothers (take note, not all dreams should be shared with others).
Now it’s all been shattered!
- He had to wonder where it was all headed.
- He had to wonder if he would even see home again.
- He had to wonder, even if briefly, where God was in all that was happening. (I would, and you probably would too)
Are you a slave to unemployment?
However, when life settles down with him as a slave and you unemployed, that’s where faith is tested. He still believed God was in control, and the days, months, and years that followed validated that. Are you willing to believe the same…that God is still in control, and continue to watch for the days ahead to validate that? You can stop being a slave…
You may feel lost; God isn’t. You may feel discouraged; God isn’t. You may wonder just what’s ahead; God doesn’t. He’s still at work bringing order out of the chaos of your life. He restored order to Joseph’s life and propelled him to a responsible position where he could use his newly developed skills and abilities. He will likewise propel you into a job situation best suited to you. Trust!
God will bring you out. God will put you in a place of meaning. God will provide a fulfilling opportunity. God will do it…in His time! Trust that…
- His time is worth waiting for
- His time can’t be rushed
- His time is the essence of the test
- His time is the fulfillment of the adventure.
He is at work, and He’s not finished yet!
Dear Loving Father, there are times I feel so lost and out of control. Help me remember that you are still in control and have not forgotten me.
