How Do You Face Your Battle Of Unemployment?
“But when you pray, go into your room,
close the door and pray to your Father,
who is unseen. Then your Father,
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:6
What battle do you fight over and over? Seems like we all have at least one, and we find ourselves on that battlefield frequently.
What significant problems are you facing right now? Life is full of problems, and if you think there are some people that don’t have any, you just don’t know them well enough. We all have problems. So is yours a marriage that’s falling apart, rebellious children, someone making your life a nightmare, lack of purpose, or ________________ ? You can fill in the blank.
Even in your job search you will find battles that raise their ugly heads. Is your battle anger, depression, lust, greed, selfishness, jealousy, gossip, pride, slander, fear, or _____________________? You fill in the blank. The battles you face during unemployment are real!
How are you handling your battles and your problems?
We try everything we can think of to deal with them. We throw money at them, have an illicit affair, get more public limelight, work more hours, think our way out of it, or take some other approach. What’s your way of trying to deal with your battles?
Galatians tells us we are in a spiritual battle, and it’s not against forces of this world, it’s against forces of evil in heavenly places. When you are involved in this kind of spiritual activity you need to use spiritual resources to deal with it. Relational strategies, problem-solving techniques, organizational processes are all useful for temporal issues, but spiritual battles require spiritual resources.
Earthly Battles are Spiritual Warfare…
Most of us are not accustomed to looking at our earthly problems and personal issues as spiritual battles, or if we do, we think they can be solved with well thought out strategies, detailed plans, self-discipline, and confrontational techniques. These are again all useful and helpful aids, but not for spiritual warfare.
And believe me, Satan is busy throwing all kinds of roadblocks in your path. What has he thrown in the path of your job search? If he can distract you, drain off your energy, and get you to focus on things other than seeing life as an adventure with God, you are less effective in your walk. He will slow you down anyway he can…
The spiritual resources you need to cultivate is dependence on the indwelling Holy Spirit, consistent use of the Word of God, and prayer. Of all of these, prayer is probably where we are least effective. We don’t take it seriously. We try to approach it formulaically. We don’t see it for what it is…an opportunity to meet with the God of the universe.
We need to work at prayer to be truly effective. How is your prayer life, really? Is it robust and useful for your battles?
Maker of the universe, you long to meet with me in prayer. Give me the same longing to meet with You.
